Having read the atlas of R & A in Britain yesterday, i noticed a section noting the breeding of the Dice Snake in Yorkshire (Thompson 1971, Howes, 1973)

Does anybody know if the species has persisted further in breeding and if they still survive? I know that Elaphe longissima still survives in N.Wales and the possibility of Natrix tessallata surviving today is not impossible.

The R & A atlas also states nine specimens were recorded in 1973.

Any info anyone can offer would be interesting to know.

I have not been able to see the specific references and have always doubted the possibility of a colony in Yorkshire. I did follow up another paper that refered to the 1971 sighting and spoke to the author but he had not found any and I think was misquoted.
Would be interested in seing these references if anyone lives up north near Doncaster I believe the Naturalist a monthly journal of Natural History for the North of England is published there so a library close by might take it. Vol 97 p17-20 and 121-32 are the 2 articles.
